h1. MLR SP24XC flight recorders

[MLR user instructions|MLR SP24XC^MLR SP24XC instructions.pdf]

CIMA approval document and user instructions for the MLR are contained in the [CIMA section of the main FAI website|http://www.fai.org/microlight/flight_recorders].

h2. MLR downloader software

This is used to download the data from MLR SP24XC's which are in CIMA logger mode to IGC format required for flight analysis.
* [Download the software|MLR SP24XC^MLRdownloader.zip].
* Unzip the file somewhere on your computer.
* Double click on *MlrDownload.exe* or at a shortcut pointing at it.
* Set the location where the eventual output files will be saved.
* Plug in the MLR and switch it on.
* The MLR should download automatically.
* Note that it is MUCH easier and faster to download MLRs when the ID of each one has been saved, and a task window has been set. See Annex 2 of the CIMA approval document for full instructions.

h2. Normal MLR firmware changer software

In championships, all MLRs must be in 2 second or 5 second logger mode. Any pilot found in posession of a MLR in 'free flying mode' will score zero and could be disqualified.

Use this software to switch a MLR between free flying mode, 2 second flight recorder mode and 5 second flight recorder mode.

* [Download the software.|MLR SP24XC^MLRLOADFFVL101.zip][|http://wiki.fai.org/docs/miscDocs/MLRLOADFFVL101.zip?action=save][Download the software|MLR SP24XC^MLR_NUCLEAR_V1.12.zip]
* Unzip the file somewhere on your computer.
* Double click on *MLR LOAD VL-FF.exe* or at a shortcut pointing at it.
* Set Receiver type to SP24XC TRACK_2 (for 2 second interval logging = 4h 32 min endurance.)
* Set Receiver type to SP24XC TRACK_5 (for 5 second interval logging = 11h 20 min endurance.)
* Plug in the MLR to a serial port. (Note that only some USB-Serial converters work).
* Click the button to start loading the MLR firmware.
* Note that in 'free flight' mode the serial port connection is closed by default and must be opened in the MLR's settings menu before this software will work.
* *VERY IMPORTANT Do NOT disconnect the MLR until the process has finished or the logger could be rendered useless for ever\!*

h2. Nuclear MLR firmware changer software

If the display on a MLR shows only *WRONG CHECKSUM WAIT PROGRAM* then the ROM is corrupted. It is possible to achieve this by disconnecting data cable when altering the internal software. The 'nuclear' software can often be used to recover a 'dead' MLR - if this doesn't work then the MLR is truly dead.
\\
* [Download the software|MLR SP24XC^MLR_NUCLEAR_V1.12.zip].
* Unzip the file somewhere on your computer.
* Double click on *MLR LOAD V1.12.exe* or at a shortcut pointing at it.
* Set Receiver type to SP24XC FFVL
* Plug in the MLR to a serial port. (Note that only some USB-Serial converters work).
* Click the button to start loading the MLR firmware.
* *VERY IMPORTANT Do NOT disconnect the MLR until the process has finished or the logger could be rendered useless for ever\!*
* When finished, go to the MLR's settings menu and *open the serial port* so you can load the normal 2 sec or 5 sec logger firmware as above.
