IT experts group brief
FAI has a dismal record of IT projects (failure of website in spring 2011, sporting licence database Etc.)
Since there are many IT experts within the FAI family, the ASC presidents meeting of May 2011 proposed to establish an IT Experts group 'soon'. Despite various promises, as of November 2011 it has not yet been established, perhaps partially because Secretariat is struggling to establish a brief for the group.
This paper (and associated papers) is intended to provide some ideas for the brief.
As of November 2011, in my view the outstanding problems are:
- A Centralized id & permissions system
- Centralized data storage system
- Key FAI interfaces
- [Open data format & API]
- Data processing
- Mailing lists
- Calendars
It is to be noted that many of these items are interlinked, which in turn creates a fairly obvious order of implementation.
