World record corrections

In the years leading up to 2009 it was perceived that in some cases FAI was not recording the correct details of the aircraft which were flown in World Records.

This was usually in aircraft made of three major components like weightshift microlights and paramotors where the frame and engine were often, but not always, manufactured by different companies.

In cooperation with the FAI Secretariat, the 2009 CIMA plenary resolved that the data fields in the FAI records database dedicated to describing the aircraft should be increased from four to six: *Wing*, *Frame* and *Engine*, where:

* *Wing* Is the bit which actually does the flying. In the case of aerodynamically controlled aircraft this includes the fuselage.
* *Frame* Is the trike of a weightshift aircraft, or the frame or 'chassis' of a paramotor. These two fields should be left blank in the case of aerodynamically controlled aircraft.
* *Engine* Is the bit which makes the noise.
* *Manufacturer* Is the name of the company or person which made the *Wing*, *Frame* or *Engine*.
* *Model* Is the name given to the *Wing*, *Frame* or *Engine* by its manufacturer.

As from 1 Jan 2010 the record claim form asks for these six items, and record claims will be recorded in the FAI database according to this protocol.

But we are left with missing information in many pre-2010 records.  They need to be updated, but to go back into all the original paperwork would be a huge work for the FAI secretariat, they don't have the time to do it, and in any case it might not actually contain the required information.

h4. You can do it.

The table below contains this information in the affected classes as it was recorded in the FAI records database on 1 Jan 2010. You won't find any records from the Aerodynamically controlled classes here because their data doesn't change.

If CIMA delegates can find evidence (eg by looking at the data used to ratify the national record or by asking the pilot) which will correct this, they can login and edit the table below, putting the {color:red}corrections in red{color} and their name in the recommended-by column. These changes then become *recommended corrections* for FAI secretariat to make to the FAI records database.

What we are trying to do here is construct a definitive historical record:
* *Please only recommend changes which you are entirely sure about.* Speculative changes or assumptions are of no use.
* The purpose of this is to only make changes to Wing, Frame and Engine, not any other data fields.
* *Please retain names as they were at the time.* A manufacturer may have changed their name, what we are looking for is information as it would have been recorded at the time the claim was made.
* You may find some claims in this list which were cancelled, withdrawn or never ratified. Please delete those rows from the list, we are only interested in records which were actually ratified as World records.
